The use of nickel-based super alloys is becoming increasingly popular in the oil and gas industry. The environments encountered in oil and natural gas production are frequently corrosive and with significant levels of hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, chlorides, and free sulphur. In some of these environments high pressure and temperatures up to 450°F (232°C) can be encountered. With formation pressure and temperature effects, works in this environment will corrode and fracture metal components quickly; causing serious accidents and large economic losses.
Processing of oil and natural gas under these environmental conditions requires special materials such as Secorp Metals SE-718, SE-825, SE-904. These high-performance alloys are age-hardening for superior yield strength and contain alloying elements to aid in protection against corrosion.
